Camp Capitola as it was called at one time, is another area used as a respite from valley temperatures and while it was a shipping point and busy fishing village, recreation took over. This area has always been popular for tourists. On the bluff above Capitola are beautiful bold new homes and remnants of old cabins of the Camp Capitola era. As a child we visited family friends and the kids slept in screened in porches in these tiny bungalows. We then walked to the Capitola Esplanade for Skee Ball, games and ice cream! The Capitola mall is basically a shell these days, it is awaiting a new town center with movie theaters, outdoor shopping experience and housing. I am very excited about this! *please note these are my personal observations and knowledge of these areas.
